Utrechters on a tight budget want to eat organic and live sustainably

Support for Sustainable Utrecht 2030 is visibly growing, 15 December in the Dom Church

About thirty people, including municipal council faction chairman Maarten van Heuven of the Partij voor de Dieren, attended the meeting of Duurzaam Utrecht 2030 in the Dom Church on Friday afternoon, December 15, 2023. The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the results and recommendations of the pilot with subsidized organic groceries in Lunetten, by Elizabete Fedčenko. Giulia Malisani's presentation of brainstorms, interviews and surveys on sustainable living among young people, asylum seekers and people with a migrant background was also well received. Four environmental science students from the HAS University of Applied Sciences in Den Bosch asked for and received cooperation with their research into mobility poverty. The results will be announced in February 2024. The afternoon started with an icebreaker, where each participant named their favorite vegetable. The Dom Church offered the space free of charge and also took care of the catering costs. In January, we will present the recommendations to make organic food possible for all in Utrecht to the city council and we will bring copies of the report of the trial with subsidized organic groceries to the participants in Lunetten. Read the summary here and the full report on subsidized organic groceries in Lunetten here.

The Event: Join the "Young Voices" Policy Sprint . This isn't a lecture. It is a working session where we analyze the government's proposal and write an official "Zienswijze" (consultation response). Why join? ● Real Impact: Your feedback goes directly to the Province before the Feb 16 deadline. ● Networking: Work alongside young farmers, fellow Students, province based organisations and policy experts. When: January 8, 2026 | 09:00 – 13:00 Where: Huis van Actief Burgerschap, Utrecht (to be confirmed)
