Living sustainably: fun & lively discussions at the Harvest Festival

Ollie Köhn-Haskins • 22 september 2023

Duurzaam Utrecht 2030 hosted a productive discussion on realistically living sustainably at Utrecht Natuurlijk's Koppelsteede city farm Harvest Festival.

For more information, please see the full reports (available in Dutch and English)!

Ineke Malsch, and a new member of the Duurzaam Utrecht 2030 Team, Elisabete, spoke to visitors of a lively harvest festival celebrating the coming Autumn! They were excited to share our organizations past successes, and speak to visitors about our goals for the future. Visitors were gifted with a fun Drietet game (an educational game for children about the Sustainability Development Goals), and given the opportunity to brainstorm ideas about living sustainably on some posters (see above!). Mainly, people reflected on insulation or solar panels and saving energy through other means, but many also considered changing their diets. For example, through cutting down on animal products, as producing them is the second biggest cause of greenhouse emissions and a leading cause of deforestation. Many people also expressed a desire to buy organic produce - but said that the prices were holding them back. Organic groceries and other sustainable food options should be subsidized so they are cheaper!

Although we have a long way to go, it is inspiring to see how many people want to talk about making sustainable changes in their everyday lives. It is so important to talk about a better future so that we can make it happen. Stay green, and stay hopeful!
