Exploring Sustainability of Fruit and Vegetables from Turkish and Moroccan supermarkets on Kanaleneiland

Fair Future Generators Jona and Henriette spent September until December 2025 talking with Turkish and Moroccan supermarket owners on Kanaleneiland about the fruits and vegetables they sell. Where do the products come from? Are they packaged or not? Where do the leftovers go? On Thursday, October 30, they pitched their project during the Foodprint Utrecht Region networking event at the Maarschalkerweerd Vegetable Garden. On Monday, November 24, they shared their results with visitors to the Ik Wil Wat Doen Market at Tivoli Vredenburg, organized by Action Aid's Feminist Climate Academy. On Friday, December 12, 2025, they reported to the participating shopkeepers and distributed these  flyers   with the results to the Kanaleneiland library and neighborhood centers. From late November 2025 to late January 2026, AERES Master student Food Systems Innovation  Kenechi   took over as part of her crossover internship at Duurzaam Utrecht 2030. She toured the neighborhood on December 12th, and on Friday, January 16th, 2026, she organized discussions with visitors to the Bij Bosshardt drop-in center and the Kanaleneiland Library about the findings. On Thursday, January 29th, 2026, she presented her recommendations for the next steps during a poster presentation at AERES University of Applied Sciences in Almere. Read her publication here:

Starting in late February 2026, two new  Fair Future Generator trainees, Marloes and Niki, will build on this. They got off to a flying start by also being present on January 16th.
